Mr. & Mrs.

Jackie and Larry use to sit outside, whenever it got to hot.

But never together like Mr.& Mrs. always in a different spot.

Larry sat in their screened in porch watching the people out and about.

They watched him. He watched them-

But “hello” never came from his mouth.

Jackie sat in their driveway.

In her car, not his.

Far enough but close enough,to hear their 3 small kids.

She’d sit after sunset

No music. No Newspaper. No Book.

Just staring into “end of the day” nothingness.

Wearing a sort of blank stare as her regular look.

I respected their privacy, their separate ways to unwind.

“Hey Jackie” I said jokingly, leaning in on the passenger side.

How’s Larry and the kids?

What’s really on your mind?

Girl… (she said, shaking her head, and looking towards her Mr.)

If I do not sit here every day,

With the keys inside the house

Today might just be the day

I do not look back, I don’t pack, but simply drive away.
